Ordering the wrong spare part costs more than the price of the part. It can mean another round of enquiries, a longer wait and more time with equipment out of service. Most of these delays can be avoided by preparing the right information before you send an enquiry.

01Start with the part number
The part number is the most reliable way to identify a component. It is usually stamped or printed on the part itself, on a label, or listed in the equipment manual or previous purchase records. If you have the old part on hand, check it carefully before it is discarded.
02Know your engine and equipment model
When a part number is not available, the engine model and equipment model narrow down the search. For example, Cummins Quantum Series diesel generators include the QSK45, QSK60, QSK78, QSK95, QST23 and QSX15, while Mitsubishi Heavy Industries diesel generators include the S6R, S12R and S16R. Note the model exactly as it appears on the engine or generator nameplate.
03Share any other available equipment information
If neither the part number nor the full model is known, any available equipment information still helps. A clear description of the part and where it fits gives the sourcing team a starting point.
- Part number (if available)
- Engine model and equipment model
- Description of the part and where it is used
- Quantity required
